Death Cab for Cutie releases their follow-up to 2005's Plans today with soon-to-be-everyone's-newest love Narrow Stairs. After devouring this album for the past 10 days, I can say with authority (not to claim I have much...) that this is Death Cab's best album yet. After hearing "I Will Possess Your Heart," the records first single, I knew. It's not often you hear a really amazing indie track with a 4 and a half minute intro. Ben Gibbard's vocals are spot on throughout this 11-song somewhat unsolicited relationship advice journey, and I can't get enough.
From "Bixby Canyon Bridge" to "The Ice Is Getting Thinner," Gibbard & co. have made a killer album. It's different than Plans - if that's what you're expecting, you may be disappointed. This record's got more umph, more of a kick. It's cutting edge, and while some think it may be their downfall, I think they got it just right.
I'd like to point out a few favorites on this album, but that's turning out to be quite difficult. I love "I Will Possess You Heart" for the experimental jam and the lyrics that seem to echo my way of thinking exactly. I love "Cath..." for it's catchiness and foot tapping. I love "Your New Twin Sized Bed" for its familiarity and imagery. I love "The Ice Is Getting Thinner" for its sense of emptiness and yearning. I love all the others for other reasons - there's no weak link on this record. All these songs are so different, but all so beautiful, and I believe you'll agree once this album sinks into your bloodstream.
As is the case with any Death Cab tunes, I eagerly await the completely unexpected moment while walking around late at night that these lyrics rip apart my heart. It will surely come.
I'm gonna go ahead and give this an "essential album" (new!) tag.

You described the experience perfectly! Gibbard's lyrics are always dead-on and beautiful.
I am waiting to buy the new cd at Sasquatch where I will see them play next weekend (doubtless it will be as magical as the last time I saw them live), but I will definitely listen to the tracks you posted beforehand. Thanks for the post!
I am so happy to get some hero gold and the hero online gold is given by my close friend who tells me that the hero online money is the basis to enter into the game. Therefore, I should buy hero gold with the spare money and I gain some hero money from other players.
