Best Tracks of 2007: 100-51

Here we go: the Top 100 Tracks of 2007 from Café Eclectica Music. Half today, half tomorrow, and albums coming as well. If you haven't heard 'em yet, grab 'em now and support these phenomenal artists!

100. Jamie T - "So Lonely Was the Ballad" (Panic Prevention)
Reminds me a bit of "Damn, It Feels Good to Be a Gangster." Love it.

99. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Rockers to Swallow" (IS IS EP)

98. The Maccabees - "X-Ray" (Colour It In)

97. Kevin Drew - "Lucky Ones" (Spirit If...)
The screaming of "Yeah" during the chorus of this track was the thing that I really remember from the first time I saw Drew and co. with Feist.

96. Arcade Fire - "Keep the Car Running" (Neon Bible)
Kings of Leon-ish track that was pulled out extraordinarily well by Foo Fighters on Radio 1.

95. Cut Off Your Hands - "Still Fond" (Still Fond/Closed Eyes EP)
A phenomenal song to run to. Fun.

94. 1990s - "See You at the Lights" (Cookies)

93. Aqualung - "Cinderella" (Memory Man)
The guitar riff on this has always reminded me of part of Coldplay's "Fix You." Glad this guy is finally getting some recognition.

92. Kevin Drew - "Backed Out On The..." (Spirit If)
The second track from Spirit If... on the list, this track sounds more Broken Social Scene-y than any other. Overpoweringly great.

91. Vampire Weekend - "Oxford Comma" (Blue CD-R)

90. Rilo Kiley - "The Moneymaker" (Under the Blacklight)
One of the sexiest tunes of the year (and I think anything Jenny Lewis ever sings is sexy), I couldn't get the guitar back-and-forth interaction out of my head.

89. White Denim - "Dark Sided Computer Mouth" (Let's Talk About It EP)
High-powered and clean.

88. Band of Horses - "The General Specific" (Cease to Begin)

87. Stars - "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead (Final Fantasy Remix)" (Do You Trust Your Friends?)
One of the best covers this year - the original blew me out of the water, but this version is just as good. Owen Pallet reinvents a masterpiece full of dissonance.

86. The Most Serene Republic - "Compliance" (Population)

This song made me love TMSR. When I saw it live, it stole my heart. I love Canadians.

85. The Silver Seas - "Imaginary Girl" (High Society)
I won't be surprised to see this song in a soundtrack for a Wes Anderson movie sometime in the future. It sounds exactly like his soundtracks.

84. Of Montreal - "Gronlandic Edit" (Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?)
One of my favorite songs of the first two months of 2007, this funky track took a backseat for the rest of the year. It's nice to revisit its greatness now.

83. The New Pornographers - "Challengers" (Challengers)
More Canadians.

82. The National - "Apartment Story" (Boxer)
"Tired and wired we ruin too easy..." beautiful lyricism and songwriting on this one. One of many off of Boxer that I loved.

81. Kings of Leon - "On Call" (Because of the Times)
Don't love the first 40 seconds of this one, but past the introduction, this is pure genius.

80. Josh Ritter - "To the Dogs or Whoever" (The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter)

79. José González - "Down the Line" (In Our Nature)

78. John Vanderslice - "Tablespoon of Codeine" (Emerald City)
This is the first song of John's I had heard, and it's industrial rock sound is just brilliant. His dissonance throughout Emerald City makes the album different (and a bit of a grower).

77. Radiohead - "House of Cards" (In Rainbows)
Absolutely gorgeous track about relationships.

76. Bat for Lashes - "Sad Eyes" (Fur and Gold)
The first Bat for Lashes song on the list features Sigur Rós' lead singer Jónsi in the background.

75. Cocorosie - "Rainbowarriors" (The Adventures of Ghosthorse and Stillborn)

74. Iron & Wine - "Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car" (The Shepherd's Blog)
Sets the tone for the album with its chill, trippy sound.

73. Interpol - "All Fired Up" (Our Love to Admire)

72. Blonde Redhead - "The Dress" (23)
Always a bit eerie, but I can't help but love tracks off of 23.

71. Jens Lekman - "The Opposite of Hallelujah" (Night Falls Over Kortedala)
Feel good, happy go lucky, I love Jens Lekman. (He's not Canadian. Swedish.)

70. Illinois - "Nosebleed" (What the Hell Do I Know?)
Ah, banjo rock. This one was stuck in my head all of autumn.

69. Beirut - "Cliquot" (The Flying Club Cup)

68. Handsome Furs - "What We Had" (Plague Park)
This was my Song of August. After seeing them live, I love them. A lot. Canadian.

67. The Go! Team - "Grip Like a Vice" (Proof of Youth)
Another good running track - just like their entire first album.

66. Feist - "I Feel It All" (The Reminder)

65. The National - "Slow Show" (Boxer)
Oh, the second half of this song (previously "29 Years") tears my heart in two. The whole track together is beautiful.

64. Modest Mouse - "Dashboard" (We Were Dead Before the Ship Sank)

63. Andrew Bird - "Plasticities" (Armchair Apocrpyha)
Quintessential Bird: Quirky. Nonsensical. Phenomenal.

62. Kings of Leon - "Arizona" (Because of the Times)

61. John Vanderslice - "The Minaret" (Emerald City)

60. Bat for Lashes - "Bat's Mouth" (Fur and Gold)
This one snuck up on me, perhaps because the second half is where it really turns amazing. Don't miss the last little bit either.

59. Jens Lekman - "Kanske Är Jag Kär I Dig" (Night Falls Over Kortedala)
Feel good Motown track of the year. Lekman's vocals aren't always supreme, but I'm not complaining this time around.

58. Feist - "1234" (The Reminder)
Would have been a top 20 song had I not heard it on every commercial ever. Great video too.

57. Spoon - "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" (Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga)

56. Albert Hammond, Jr. - "Everyone Gets a Star" (Yours to Keep)
Hammond's first non-Strokes effort gets a star from me (I couldn't resist).

55. Amy Winehouse - "Tears Dry On Their Own" (Back to Black)
Love it. Get over that relationship, druggie, you'll be fine.

54. Menomena - "Air Aid" (Friend and Foe)
Uneasy.

53. Bon Iver - "The Wolves (Act I and II)" (For Emma, Forever Ago)

52. Nico Vega - "Gravity" (No Child Left Behind EP)
I don't know what drags me in so much on this track. I think it's her. Screaming.

51. Radiohead - "All I Need" (In Rainbows)
Best late night walking track of the year.

Once again, you can find any of these artists on iTunes - support them!
