This week is going to only have briefs. I'm busy seeing a lot of bands I haven't heard of. Wink.
Last night I went to the Brooklyn Vegan Showcase at Bowery Ballroom: Bon Iver, The Shaky Hands, The Most Serene Republic, Dean & Britta, The Rosebuds, and Voxtrot. Miracle Fortress was stopped at the border and couldn't play unfortunately - I was excited to see them. By the end of the night I could barely stand anymore and I left before the Voxtrot set was over despite the fact that they were amazing. I'm exhausted and that was just day 1!
(mp3 dump at the end.)
Bon Iver was great - hadn't heard them, but will definitely keep my ears open for their stuff in the future. They're playing another CMJ show this afternoon and I might try to go.

The Shaky Hands were new to me as well. They had good energy and a fun set - they were a blast to watch as well.

The Most Serene Republic were my favorites of the night - I had only heard a bit of them before, but they really took over with their high energy. They have made me a believer. Check out their new release, Population. Gotta love bands using trombones.

I was very excited to see Dean & Britta - I've missed them around Brooklyn a few times but have been wanting to see them since I first heard Back Numbers. They were really low energy (as is expected with their style of music) except for during "You Turn My Head Around," my personal highlight.

The Rosebuds were the crowd favorite. I didn't know them, now I do and plan on listening to them quite a bit more. I had heard a few tracks before, but I think it took seeing them live for me to really appreciate it.

Voxtrot was great. Like I said, I left a bit early, but while I was there they kind of blew me away. I saw them at Siren, but I was too far back. They were really great and I hope to see them again in an intimate space like that (super bummed I missed them at Music Hall of Williamsburg the past two nights). "Kid Gloves" was absolutely amazing.

Plenty of photos here.
Today what will I see? It's all up in the air right now.

It was great to finally meet you, and excellent pictures as usual. The shot of the tambourine feet-playing from the Shaky Hands is a classic.
