Iron & Wine to Release New LP

Sam Beam, aka Iron & Wine, just finished recording his upcoming album. Shepard's Dog, the Florida-based songwriter's third full-length album, is set to be released in September through Sub Pop Records, and will be supported by a two-month tour of North America and Europe in the fall.

Beam told Billboard that the new album has a "wider sonic palette" than anything he's previously released, and also states that, "There's some waltzes, reggae-influenced stuff and some straight-up West African highlife music." When Beam was asked to describe the album to Pitchfork Media, Beam replied "It's not a political propaganda record, but it's definitely inspired by political confusion, because I was really taken aback when Bush got reelected." There should be a single off the album sometime this summer, along with several of the B-side tracks that didn't make the cut.

Iron & Wine's last LP was Our Endless Numbered Days, which was released in 2004. The album sold around 200,000 copies in the US, and I think it's safe to say that Beam's popularity is up quite a bit since then.

The track list is as follows:
01 Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car
02 White Tooth Man
03 Lovesong of the Buzzard
04 Carousel
05 House by the Sea
06 Innocent Bones
07 Wolves (Song of the Shepherd's Dog)
08 Resurrection Fern
09 Boy With a Coin
10 The Devil Never Sleeps
11 Peace Beneath the City
12 Flightless Bird, American Mouth
